Plain Biryani Rice Recipe

Plain Biryani rice is very tasty and easy to cook. Biryani rice could easily be prepared at home and it is gels well with any type of food be it vegetarian or non-vegetarian, as it could be paired with simple dal or even with mutton or chicken. Long grain basmati variety of rice is preferred for preparing Biryani rice. The best thing that I like about plain basmati rice is the fact that it is aromatic at the same time tastes less spicy or rather plain.

And when the water starts boiling, add whole spices like - mace, 1 tea spoon cumin, 1/2 teaspoon Shahjeera, 10 black peppers, 5 cloves, 2 to 4 pieces of cinnamon, 2 big cardamom , add 4 small cardamoms, and 1 star anise.

  1. Soaking the rice in water for 20 minutes helps remove additional starch, reduces cooking time and at the same time, it helps in preparing non-sticky, fluffy Biryani rice.
  2. While adding the basmati rice to the boiling water mixture, carefully add the rice slowly and mix well, but do not break the rice while mixing.
  3. The rice becomes light as it swells, and breaks when heated. Adding lemon juice to basmati rice helps in producing bright white colored rice.
