Bottle Gourd Recipe Using Yellow Lentil
Bottle gourd which is also known as Lauki in India is a very healthy vegetable and there are several ways of preparing it. Today we are going to discuss bottle gourd recipe using yellow lentil or chickpea lentils or chana dal as it is called in India. It is a slightly spicy bottle gourd recipe and has a very tasty gravy. Preparation takes little effort and less time, and it's liked by almost everyone.
Ingredients for Bottle Gourd Recipe Using Yellow Lentils
- Bottle Gourd : 1/2 kilogram (finely chopped)
- Yellow Lentil or Chickpea Lentils : 1/2 cup (soaked in water for an hour)
- Asafoetida (Hing) : 1 pinch
- Cumin Seeds : 1 teaspoon
- Onion : 1 (finely chopped)
- Tomato : 1 (finely chopped)
- Green Chili : 2 (finely chopped)
- Garlic : 5-6 (finely chopped)
- Ginger : 1/2 inch (finely chopped)
- Turmeric Powder : 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt : 1 teaspoon
- Red Chili Powder : 1/2 teaspoon
- Coriander Powder : 1/2 teaspoon
- Coriander Leaves : 2 tablespoon (finely chopped)
- Cooking Oil : 2 tablespoon
- Water : 3/ 4 cup
Preparation Time : 20 minutes
Cooking Time : 20 minutes
Total Time : 40 minutes
Serves : 4-5 people
How To Cook Bottle Guard Using Yellow Lentils
- First of all soak the yellow lentils or chickpea lentils in water for an hour
- Wash the bottle gourd, onion, tomato, garlic, ginger, green coriander leaves and finely chop each of them separately
- Put a pressure cooker on a stove and heat it. Once it is heated pour cooking oil and heat it.
- Once the oil is heated, add cumin seeds and fry till it is red, then add chopped onions and fry it for 2 minutes
- When the color of onion is light pink, add garlic, ginger, green chili and fry it for another 2 minutes
- Now add powdered spices including turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, asafoetida and fry it for another 1 minute
- After this add the chopped tomato and fry it for another 3-4 minutes till the tomatoes are cooked and become soft
- Now add chopped bottle gourd, soaked yellow lentils and salt as per taste and fry it for another 4-5 minutes
- Once all are fried properly, add water and put the lid of pressure cooker and cook it till 4-5 whistles
- After 5 whistles of pressure cooker, switch off the stove, wait for pressure to be released and then open the lid, if there is excess water, put the lid again and cooker for another 1 or 2 whistles, else the Lauki Ki Sabzi or bottle gourd curry using yellow lentils is ready to be served.
