Butter Chicken Recipe

Indian Butter Chicken recipe is very rich and creamy, giving chicken a new taste. The dish is popular across India, especially in northern India. Normally boneless chicken pieces are preferred; however butter chicken could be prepared using non-boneless pieces too.

Ingredients For Butter Chicken Recipe

  • Chicken : 500 grams
  • Butter : 25 grams
  • Curd : 2 tablespoon
  • Onion : 2 big size
  • Tomatoes : 4-5 big size
  • Ginger Paste : 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic Paste : 1 tablespoon
  • Salt : As per taste
  • Mustard Oil : 2 tablespoon
  • Red Chili Powder : 1 tablespoon
  • Coriander Powder : 1 tablespoon
  • Turmeric Powder : 1 teaspoon
  • Lemon Juice : 1 tablespoon
Whole Spices
  • Big or Black Cardamom : 1
  • Small or Green Cardamom : 3 pieces
  • Cloves : 5 
  • Cinnamon : 1 stick
  • Cumin Seeds : 1/2 teaspoon
  • Star Anise: 2 

Preparation Time : 45 minutes
Cooking Time : 30 minutes
Total Time : 40 minutes
Serves : 4 persons 

How To Cook Butter Chicken Or Butter Chicken Recipe

  1. For preparing butter chicken, we marinate chicken twice. First of all wash the chicken properly and rinse out all extra water. 
  2. Marinating for the first time, we will add lemon juice, curd and salt in the chicken, mix all well and put it in refrigerator for 10 minutes. 
  3. After 10 minutes we will marinate it for the second time. Now, we will add 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder, 1/2 teaspoon ginger garlic paste, 2 tablespoon mustard oil 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder in the chicken and mix it well. Leave it in refrigerator for 45 minutes.  
  4. While our chicken is being marinated, we will prepare the gravy. 
  5. Put a cooker on stove and heat it, once heated pour butter in it and put all the whole spices in it. 
  6. When spices are cooked, we will cut the onions roughly and put them in the cooker. Fry till it turns pinkish. 
  7. Add ginger garlic paste and remaining powdered spices like turmeric powder, red chili powder etc and fry it. Once the onion and spices are fried properly cut the tomatoes roughly and fry well. 
  8. After frying it well, we will put the lid of cooker and cook it for 2-3 whistles. Once done, we will leave it aside for cooling. 
  9. By this time, our chicken has marinated for 45 minutes and now we will fry it.
  10. Put a kadai (cauldron) on stove and pour oil to heat. 
  11. Put chicken into the hot oil and fry it to make it crispy. 
  12. By the time our chicken gets fried, our spices have cooled down. 
  13. Now we will take out all the spices and put them in a mixture jar and grind it to make fine paste. 
  14. Once done we will put the paste in a kadai (cauldron) and also put the fried chicken in it and cook for another 4-5 minutes. Once done, our Butter Chicken is ready. Garnish it will dried fenugreek leaves, it also adds value to taste.
