Garam Masala Recipe

Garam Masala is a widely used aromatic spice combination in India. Given to it’s uses, it won’t be wrong to call is a magic masala of Indian kitchen and Indian food. It is readily available in markets in powdered as well as whole form. Both whole and powdered garam masala is used in cooking. However when we talk about quality, homemade garam masala has no match. Homemade garam masala simply takes recipes to another level.

Ingredients For Garam Masala Recipe

  • Coriander Seeds : 3/4 cup
  • Cumin Seeds : 1/2 cup
  • Black Cumin Seeds : 1 teaspoon
  • Fennel : 1 teaspoon
  • Cloves : 1 tablespoon
  • Black Pepper : 2 tablespoon
  • Bay Leaves : 5
  • Nutmeg (Jaifal) : 2
  • Star Anise (Chakra Phool) : 5
  • Mace (javitri) : 2
  • Cinnamon : 3 inches
  • Black Cardamom : 5
  • Green Cardamom : 3 teaspoon
  • Dried Red Chili : 3-5
  • Ginger Powder : 1 teaspoon

Preparation Time : 5 minutes
Cooking Time : 10 minutes
Total Time : 15 minutes

How To Make Garam Masala Or Garam Masala Recipe

  1. Take a kadai (cauldron) with thick base and heat it. Now put coriander seeds and dry roast it till the seeds become crispy. It will take around 2-3 minutes. Then put this in a plate and let it cool. 
  2. Now in the same kadai put black cumin and cumin seeds and fry till they become crispy, then keep them in a plate for cooling. 
  3. In the same kadai put black pepper and red chilies and fry till they become crispy, then keep them in a plate for cooling. 
  4. In the same kadai put Nutmeg (Jaifal), Star Anise (Chakra Phool), Mace (javitri), Cinnamon, Black Cardamom, Green Cardamom, Bay Leaves and fry till they become crispy, then keep them in a plate for cooling. 
  5. Once done, mix all the dry roasted whole spices and grind them in a mixture. 
  6. After this, add ginger powder in this mixture and mix it well. Garam Masala is now ready for use.
